Ten Prayer Points for Our Church for New Year, 2025

As the year is coming to a close, we naturally pray thanksgiving prayers for the blessings of the past year. Our old nature tends to look ahead to the next year and pray, saying, “Lord bless me in the New Year.” There is nothing wrong with that. The Lord’s Prayer says we can pray, “Give us our daily bread,” so praying for your needs and wants is legitimate. But to be people who follow the footsteps of Christ, we want to pray for others. Also, scripture tells us to pray for others (James 5:16, 1 Timothy 2:1, Ephesians 6:18).

 

Here are some prayer points for the New Year to help you pray for others.

 

These prayer points are purposefully open-ended.

 

Since there are many, read the list a few times and wait on the Holy Spirit to direct you on which ones to pray over.

 

Reread the ones that you feel the Holy Spirit wants you to pay about a few times and wait in silence for the Holy Spirit to partner with you, giving you direction on how to pray. He may give you something general to pray about, or he may bring to mind a person or situation he wants you to pray for. (Sometimes people who pray this way later discover that they were praying for a great need they were not aware of, and their prayers brought a needed victory or deliverance. Imagine you may be the one to pray such a prayer!) 

 

New Year's prayer points.

1. Pray for any of our brothers and sisters who are answering God's call to make a new start in the new year.
2. Pray for any of our church members who are entering into a new season in life this year, not of their own choosing.
3. Pray that all who fellowship with us will grow in their Christian walk.
4. Pray for anyone who may be starting a new career, taking on a significant project, or accomplishing a long-awaited goal. 
5. Pray that every church member has deep, meaningful relationships within our church body and with others.
6. Pray for anyone in our church who needs restoration with God or others. 
7. Pray that God gives the gift of repentance to those who are burdened with sin.
8. Pray for anyone who needs renewal in their relationship with the Lord or relationships with others.
9. Pray for anyone who meets with us who has not yet made Jesus their personal Lord and Savior.
10. Pray that some in our community who are seeking meaning and purpose will find our church, where they can hear the Gospel.

I am excited about tonight's prayer gathering at my church.

You notice I did not say prayer meeting. I am not a fan of most of what I've seen in the thing people call a prayer meeting. My experience is that it is more fellowship and little prayer, and most of the things prayed for are along the lines of 'give us this day our daily bread,' not much about 'your kingdom come, your will be done.' Praying for our daily bread is legitimate and is made noble in the Lord's Prayer, but it is time to shift our prayer gatherings to focus on revival and the salvation of the lost.

So some of us began to come together to pray, focusing on "Your will be done, your kingdom be done," style of praying. We pray for missionaries, church plants, unreached people groups, the unchurched communities, the persecuted, and for the lost in our community. 

I was thinking today that everyone in our prayer gathering has grown in remarkable ways and is worthy of being called "Prayer Warriors."

We begin with worship and a reflection on one of the names of God from the Bible. Then we move into confession and dedicate our time of prayer to God. 

I'm experimenting with getting our group to pray more for the lost, so I added two prayer points for the lost loved ones. One at the beginning of the agenda and one at the end. The one at the beginning is more to get people thinking about it and to listen to the Holy Spirit bring someone to mind to pray for.

3. Acts 1:8 Focus, Jerusalem- the people in your orbit. Pray for the lost you know to come to Christ. It could be a co-worker, neighbor, classmate, friend, or family member. Ask God to show you who. If no one comes to mind right now it is ok God will give you a name and we will pray for the lost before we conclude.

The Kingdom Prayer Newsletter is a two-page printable that we use in our weekly prayer meeting at my home church. Our Kingdom Prayer Gathering is focused on God's work. It is heavy on missions, missionaries, the persecuted and suffering church worldwide, evangelistic events, and such things that build God's Kingdom. We use it like an agenda for our prayer time. It gives our prayer gathering a focus.

You will notice the style of this prayer meeting outline starts with God. There is a scripture on prayer and a reflection on one of the names of God that we can focus on in our worship and our praying as we proceed. 

Following brief worship, we begin by praying for global missions, then for unreached, unengaged peoples, and then for the persecuted church. Often, we pray for international outreach, such as a Frankland Graham Celebration in some part of the world.

After international issues are prayed for, we pray for the North American region, so it is a little closer to home. 

Space is given to pray for our region or state, then our county or town. Next, we pray for our church. Next, for our lost loved ones to come to Christ.  I am surprised at how difficult it is to get people to pray for lost loved ones. 

After we pray for God's kingdom far and near, we pray for one another. Our prayers for ourselves become very tempered and far less selfish after we pray for missionaries, the persecuted, and the lost. It gives us perspective.

It offers a lot, and looks like a lot. The goal is to spend a solid hour in prayer! We easily spend an hour in prayer and often go over the hour by 15, 20, or more without noticing.  

When we pray like this, we feel that we are standing in the shadow of the first-century church.

Free, Kingdom Prayer Newsletter 6/8/25

Each week, I create the agenda for our KINGDOM PRAYER GATHERING.  It is not intended to be your usual prayer meeting. We do not take requests, but instead have a printed page with prayer points from missionaries, church planters, the suffering church, and other ministries across the globe.

Prayer has a profound effect on the one who is praying. You may have no interest in missions, neighborhood outreach, or helping the poor, but when you pray for them, you start to care. Pray for the things that are in God’s heart, and they will awaken your heart. When you pray for the things He cares about, you start to care about them, too. Those who attend to missional prayers become missional people.

b. From IMB: There are over one million Kazakhs in Uzbekistan. Praise God, there are at least 200 known believers among this group. However, Kazakh Bibles are illegal in Uzbekistan. c. UUPG*: The Taabwa are a central Bantu ethnic group who live mainly on the southwestern shores of Lake Tanganyika in the Democratric Republic of the Congo with an estimated population of 1,235,000. d. The Persecuted Church: Pastor Li Juncai of the Yuanyang County Central House Church in Xinxiang, Henan Province (China) is currently serving a prison sentence of five and a half years after protesting the government’s attempts to remove the cross atop his church building in 2019. Kingdom Prayer Gathering Week of May 12. 25, Curated Prayer Requests

We are excited about the blessing we have received by using a new format for our prayer meeting.

We call it the Kingdom Prayer Gathering.

We do not take time-sharing requests. Instead, we use a prepared agenda (download the printable PDF below👇). The agenda allows us to spend the majority of the hour in prayer and keep our focus on greater kingdom issues.

• The printable has a vision statement on prayer to help us focus and set the expectation that we are gathering for the serious work of praying for God's blessings on the Chruch and His Kingdom.
• The Passage for our teaching is only one verse. This week, it is Romans 8:26. The training is not on the printable but is only five minutes long and consists of a few points. 
• The agenda starts our prayer time with worship, which focuses on one of God's names. This week, it is YAHWEH CHELQI, which means THE LORD MY PORTION.
• Then, prayer for global kingdom issues such as the Missionaries (IMB), the suffering church (Voice of the Martyrs), and Unreached People Groups. 
• Next, we pray for the work of the Lord in our home country, the USA, and for a few Church planters (NAMB). This week, we focused on a couple of church planters in Texas. Other times, we pray for other areas and outreach ministries reaching our country. 
• Following that, we pray for our region and state, using prayer requests from local ministries. One ministry we are praying for this week is a ministry in Baltimore, MD, that has an opportunity to plant a church in a needy neighborhood.
• We next pray for our loved ones to come to Christ. 
• Next, we pray for our city. 
• Then we pray for our church. We pray for staff, deacons, ministries, etc.
• Lastly, we pray for the needs of those in the gathering. We will take a few minutes to hear any requests and pray if anyone has any requests. But after praying for pastors who are put in prison for the gospel, churches being planted in the neediest neighborhoods, famine relief, the lost, and a people group that has never heard the name of Jesus, it seems our personal issues are not so big. But after wrestling for God's blessing for the greater kingdom, we are in good shape to call down blessings on our families, friends, and loved ones.
• And we close with Adoration and Thanksgiving. 

We are committed to praying for an hour, and sometimes we go well beyond that because we are so caught up in prayer for God's kingdom.

Advice for when you are anxious about praying in public.

Sometimes, we are asked to pray in a public place. Whether you are a new convert or a seasoned church leader accustomed to public speaking, you can experience doubts or temptations to "show off" and use the privilege of prayer only to impress others.

We all know that when praying in public, we need to forget who is listening and remember the One we are speaking to. One of the great essentials of prayer is seeking God. Therefore, your focus must be undivided upon Him and not those in the room listening.

The greatest reward in prayer is the encounter with God. If you seek the reward of the good opinion of those listening, you will not have either.

It is a mistake to rush into saying a public prayer. If you are called upon to lead or open in prayer or otherwise pray in public, it is wise to start by stating that your prayer will begin with the ancient practice of silence before God. Then, take a moment and be silent. It may help to draw a slow, deep breath if you are anxious.  

During that short moment of silence, force all thoughts of the people in the room out of your mind and fill your mind with the wonders and truths you know about God. In the moment, wait for a sense that God is calling you to speak. When you feel His Spirit prompt you, then pray with the authority of that permission. Resolve to talk only to the Lord. 

Let those truths you reflected on momentarily form the first statements of your prayer. It will most likely be beautiful worship.  

If you were anxious about what other people would think about you and your prayer, that anxiety would pass because you would be overcome by the delights of talking to the Father in Heaven.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. Psalm 27:7-9 NIV

My Abba Father, I come with empty hands 

And seeking only that I may perceive Christ- 

My Jesus, Savior, the One who redeems me.

The hours before me hold such unknown things

Your loving mercy is the guard over me.

You always design each day with gentle grace.

All-Seeing Lord of hosts,

I resolve afresh to trust the Righteous God;

Who always foreknows the end and starting place.

Give loving mercy if I fall into sin,

Or tested beyond my poor and puny strength. 

When tempted, display to me the escape door.

Grant holy power to bear what evils come.

If wicked attacks flare, may grace strengthen me.

O, God who observes,

Some people suffer and cry out seeking help,

So provide wisdom so that I perceive how

My Savior Jesus would have rescued them.

How Get Saved From Your Sin

Can You go To heaven and have God's blessing in this life? 

The Bible teaches a loving yet just God who wants all to come to know him, and the Good News is that we can know Him, but first, the bad news.

THE BAD NEWS
Our lives are messed up. We have problems, guilt, addictions, loneliness, aimless lives and inner emptiness. Whatever we do to fix our lives we stay messed up or get worse. There is something in us that destroys the good people we want to be. Some people call it sin, evil, or human nature, but whatever you call it this something keeps us from God and the life He wants to give us (I’ll just refer to it here as sin). God is holy and must judge sin. If He overlooked sin He would be guilty by association and no better than we are.

THE GOOD NEWS
God loves you and He wants to deliver you from the life of defeat, failure, and future judgment, Jesus said, “I have come so they may have life and have it abundantly,” (John 10:10 NIV).  But that bad something inside us is keeping us from the life God wants to give us.  So, God became our solution, as Jesus explained it when he said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 NIV). This is a promise that if we believe we have that abundant life.

BUT WHAT DO WE NEED TO BELIEVE?
We must believe that Jesus paid for our sins for us, the Bible says, "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;" (1 Peter 3:18 NASB)

God accounts your sin as having been put on His lovely Son when he died on the cross; this could only happen because Jesus lived a pure and beautiful life without sin of his own to pay for, therefore, he was the only one qualified to pay for the sins of another. As God, he was able to die for all mankind. The resurrection proves that Jesus' act of sacrifice on our behalf satisfies the justice of God and overcomes the sin that destroys us.

YOUR PART
No one is good enough for God and the life He offers.  God takes you as you are now, messed up, for the Bible says, "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Romans 5:8 NLT).

God does not force Himself on you. He gives you a choice to accept his offer of forgiveness and a new life or not. "But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name,"(John 1:12 HCSB).

God offers you a new life, and He gives it freely because Jesus paid the price. He only asks that you believe in him, you can express this in a prayer. Tell God that you admit you are a sinner and need to be saved from the sins that have messed up your life. Tell God that you believe His promise to save you.

If you are uncomfortable praying then here is an example of what you might say to God. "God, my sins have messed up my life and I know I deserve punishment. I know Jesus paid for my sins on the cross and he rose from the tomb to prove that judgment is paid for. I need the life you offer. I turn away from my sins and receive Your free gift of eternal life. From now on I will leave my selfish life behind and will obey you as my Lord, and I will live a life that says, Thank You."

Do not get confused because saying words in a prayer does not fix or save you but believing in Jesus' death to pay for your sins does, the prayer is just an expression of that faith.

The gift of new life He offers is a life of service and gratitude to Him. Find a community of others who trust Jesus as Savior and work together with them to serve God and those He loves.

My Dear Father, I come and bow before you

Father, may I never forget
To be thankful for Your blessings.
Each day You fill my life with good.
You watch over my welfare;
Yet, I rarely think of Your goodness.
You hear my prayers, and You provide.
But I neglect to say, "Thank you."
Make me more mindful of Your care,
And how I depend upon Your
Provision for me and my needs.
May You alone fill my vision.
Help me do more than speak Your praise
May I proclaim Your praise by deeds
And show my love to You through acts.
Today, may I know Your presence.
Teach me to better trust in You,
