A PRAYER FOR REVOLUTION

A Prayer For Revolution

I pray Dear God
That my land gives birth
A new generation
Of Gandhis;
May it become a nation
Of Mother Theresias,
And filled with,
Martin Luther Kings,
Let it be a state
Where every citizen
Lives the true spirit of Jesus.
Show us each day
One thing we can do like
Gandhi,
And one small act like
Mother Theresa.
Help each of us
To do deeds of love
Like Jesus did.
Guide us to daily
Contribute in some way
To a revolution of love
Redefining this land
By selfless acts
Of kindness,
Compassion,
Charity,
And sacrifice.

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45

"Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written." John 21:25.

The Sermon of St. Ben, a Poem of Speaking Through Deeds.

THE SERMON OF SAINT BEN
A Poem of Speaking Through Deeds

There is a man in our town
We just call him Ben.
He never had many schools,
He was just a clerk
In a bank.
He comes to church
In an old truck full of
Topsoil, sod, shovel, and rake.
He brings lemon-aid and
A peanut butter sandwich.
He comes after work
Or on Saturday
Alone
When no one is there-
Then spends hours
In devotion on his knees
Pulling weeds and planting bulbs,
Putting stuff in the dirt
To make the flowers grow.
He sews seeds, trims bushes,
And prunes the shade trees.
The pastor will never preach
As beautiful a sermon
As the one spoken
Through the church garden.

Prayer For The Congregation Of Man, January 25

Prayer For The Congregation of Man, For January 25

Eternal Father of all,
Remember us Your children-
The creation of Your hand,
And the passion of Your heart.
Give aid to those in trouble.
Strengthen those weak in body.
Stand with ones who are tempted.
Lift up those who have fallen.
Give light to those in darkness.
Feed the ones who are hungry.
Be present with ones who doubt.
Give hope to those who suffer.
Watch over those in danger.
Encourage the lowly ones.
Arouse those who name Your name,
So they may answer Your call;
And by doing good among men
Bring glory to Your blessed name.
Let men of goodwill go abroad
And lift the burdens of others;
To help bring Your kingdom near,
When men will know brotherhood
Blessing the Lord and Father.
Then all will know Your great name
As water covers the sea.*

When we consider human suffering it brings up many questions. Perhaps prayer is one of the answers; we may not understand suffering but must pray for those who suffer. We must welcome opportunities to meet the needs of others. To be able to help meet the need of one of God's children is an act of service to God.

The future is a mystery, no one knows the day or hour of the coming of the Lord and we may only have now to do acts of service as these. We do know that day is coming and it may be that our actions will help it come in a way we do not understand. Let us pray and continue to do good for others.

Who to Be, A Dialogue With God, Numbers 11:29

Who To Be, A Dialogue With God

Stars dimly watch as
City purple shadows
Wash the city streets with
Electric lights that barely
Crack the darkness.

"Where is the one, Lord,
Who is a shining light
To our generation?"
     No answer from heaven.

"Where is our C.S Lewis?
Or our Martin Luther,"
      The stars remain silent.

"Where is our William Booth?"
     No words from the Spirit.

"Where is our D.L. Moody?"
No voice speaks in the night.

"Where is our St. Francis?"
     Silence in the darkness.

"Who will be your voice today?"
     "Would that all the people
      were prophets." Scripture says.*

But Lord where is your one
for these desperate times?
      "You be the only you."

Who am I suppose to be?
"Go, you be the one- you."

"I am not Billy Graham."
"You are not to be him."

"But who should I be then?"
"Who I meant you to be."

"I am not a Moses.
     "I don't need a Moses."

I am not a David.
"No, you are not to be."

Or an Apostle Paul."
"You are meant to be you,
And that way you will be
      the you this world needs."

*The Bible, Numbers 11:29.

Messenger's Call, A Poem, John 1:23

Messenger's Call

"I am the voice of one
Crying in the wilderness..."*
The Prophet Baptizer said,
Two millennia ago.

He was in the desert
Dry and arid,
Lifeless and empty.

He still speaks today;
Calling from cities,
Pleading from suburbs,
Entreating in towns,
Universities,
Streets and alleys.

The Prophet Baptizer
Would discern our desert
Barely different
From his own;
A wilderness
He would know,
A wasteland of spirit,
Arid of soul,
Empty of heart,
Lifeless of purpose.

His message
To us today
In our private empty-lands
Is the same,
"Make straight the way
Of the Lord."

Speech To The Unheard Voice.

Speech To The Unheard Voice

I sit on the porch waiting
For your voice.
”Speak Lord
For your servant is listening.”*
The airplane drones above,
It is not you.
The distant train horn calls,
It is not you.
Cars rumble on the road,
It is not you.
Birds sing in the trees,
Closer, but it is not you.
Crickets chirp in the bush
Closer yet, but not you.
Do I hear you
While sitting on the porch?
No
Not today.
Is that a whisper?
I’m not sure.
Sometimes
I hear your voice;
More often not
The important thing is that
I come.

* From the Bible, 1 Samuel 3:9

My Prayer for our Nation.

A Prayer For Our Nation

A Prayer For Our National Soul.

Holy God, surely You are the God
Of all righteousness and truth.
Unbind our iron wrapped eyes
To see our wrongs against Your love.
Clean our ears of the black crud
That blocks us from hearing Your word.
Demolition our concrete hearts
And transplant tender organs.
Give us clear eyes that see Your truth.
Open our ears to hear Your words.
Grant us hearts that pump gentle love.
Take our dirty hands and turn us,
And place us on Your humble path.
May we soon enjoy Your healing,
And again share the bright blessings
That flow from Your gentle sure hand.

(c) Adron

A little commentary: This prayer-poem is for a nation made of individuals. It is a prayer that must be personal for each of us, we should say it with "Me" instead of "us," and "our." The blessing of any nation depends not on the industry of the population but the favor of God. The favor of God cannot be earned but it can be sought and found by those who humble themselves before God and acknowledge he is right.

Isaiah 6:9-10.

Desert Mode, A Poem

Desert Mode, A Poem

Maybe the desert holds the answer,
to the question of how I must live.

It is a place, that wasteland,
There the faithful seek and meet with God.

Wilderness gives birth to great prophets,
Jesus fasted there and was tested.

I need to get in the “desert mode,”
and live simply yet with devotion,

I must purge what draws me away,
for I long to hear the heart of God.

I am far from there yet I consider
that I can live in the “desert mode.”

The Most Excellent Way

The Most Excellent Way

Help me to learn, Dear Father God of love,
That most excellent way, Your way of love.
Help me to follow the path of Jesus' love;
Who on the cross for me showed true love.
Forgive me for my complacency to love.
Help me to understand the treasure of Love.
Make me into a person of passion for love.
May I fulfill the commandment to love.
Direct me to make all my plans in love.
Let me measure my motivations by love.
Show me the opportunities I have to love.
May I be transformed by the way of love,
And change my community by love.
Make me a disciple of the most excellent way.

“But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.” 1 Corinthians 12:31. NIV.

A Workers Prayer, Colossians 3:23

A Workers Prayer.

Dear God and Master, you deserve my best service.
Forgive me for working only for myself,
Forgive me for thinking my life was only mine,
And for thinking work was only a means,
And that my job was to serve my interest.

O Lord, may my work not bring shame to Your name.
Help me to not look for profit or reward.
Help me to view all work as worship to You.
I pray that my efforts will be worthy of You.
I pray to honestly thank you for today’s task.

When others see my work may they give you praise.
Thank you that my work shows my love for God.

Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever your do work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

A little commentary: I suggest you read this a few times and when you are comfortable with it you can pray it in your own words.

IT IS FINISHED, AN EASTER POEM

An Easter Poem

It Is Finished,
An Easter Poem.

You said these words on the cross,
"It is finished."*
Don't I need to do something?
"It is finished."
Don't I need to join something?
"It is finished."
Don't I need to pay something?
"It is finished."
Don't I need to give up something?
"It is finished."
Don't I need to perform penance?
"It is finished."
Don't I need to add something?
"It is finished."
So, Jesus you mean you did it all?
"It is finished."

* John 19:30

A Poet's Apology

A Poet's Apology

I am so sorry, honey,
For how our lives turned out;
You had to earn the wages
And be mom to us all.
I didn't lack ambition,
I believed in higher things;
Like rainbows at sunrise,
And pink castles in the clouds.
But the rainbow foretold storms,
And the castles became rain;
Until the dawn turned to mud
That stuck to my sneakers.
So, I tracked in my dreams
Leaving the muddy footsteps
On your brand new hardwood floor,
While you paid the mortgage.

LIVES, A Poem

Lives,
a Poem

I see from the windows of my eyes
The lives built into the city stones
The lives dreamed in beautiful houses
Driving new, shiny, fashionable cars
Owning wonderful American joys
I see the handsome muscular husbands
(Successful entrepreneurs)
And the adoring twenty something wives
(Beauty holding hands with beauty)
Glad smiles and happy greetings
Full stomachs pushing waistlines
Cruise tickets in their pockets and
Keys to the summer house in the islands.

I confess I often wish I was them
I wish I had nice houses and new car
And a beautiful loving soul mate
I wish I could just buy any food I wanted
I wish I could ride the cruse ship
To my other house in the islands

Jesus, You are my dwelling place
Jesus, You are my joyful possession
Jesus, You are the feast before me
Jesus, You are who greets me happily
Jesus, You are my adventure
Jesus, You are the house in the islands.

CONSECRATION, A POEM TO GOD

Consecration,
A Poem To God

Lord of life,
Here is my body
Take it
Break it
If you please

Lord of Light
Here is my mind
Take it
Darken it
If you please.

Lord of Love
Here is my heart
Take it
Crush it
If you please.

Lord of Time
Here is my future
Take it
Shorten it
If you please.

Lord of all
Here I am
Do with me
As you please.

TEMPLE RITUALS

Temple Rituals
A Poem.
Temple Rituals,
A poem

Temples to foreign deities
stand in the land of our hearts;
Housing gods which human breast
were not designed to worship.
Alters for sacrifices
stand in the dark corners
bearing vain offerings
to gods who love not our soul.
Our fallen hearts suck all in
lust, greed, vanity; until
like when a cold collapsed star
becomes a lifeless black hole
we are crushed under the heap.
And when the angry prophet
cast down the empty idols
the void vacuum is charged
by hunger unquenchable
and we like a fly buzz, buzz,
from one dung heap to another
seeking the longed for fulfillment
of our souls desperate needs.
So, we search for a new lord
to surrender in thrall,
but on the alter the flesh rots
and its stink stains all actions.
And we hoard a new treasure
and break faith with the old.
We search and search not knowing
that we seek He who designed
our hearts as the true temple
where the true Master may dwell.
We look around ‘til we find
a new lord for this throne;
and junk it up with things dead.
All the time God is waiting
to be invited into
the heart- His perfect temple.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock and if any one hears my voice and opens the door I will come to him and dine with him and he with me. Revelation 3:20.

PRAYER OF THE PATH

Prayer of the Path
A Poem.
Prayer Of The Path

a poem about the search for purpose.

Dear God
Deliver me
From the petty
And show me the big picture

Oh. God
Save me
From the nit-picker
And show me eternal issues

Merciful God
Rescue me
From the trivial
And help me to serve heaven.

Dear God
Keep me
From mediocrity
To care for what You care about

Oh God
Protect me
From wandering
To stay on the narrow path.

I HAD A PLAN, A POEM OF ACCEPTANCE

I Had A Plan,
A Poem Of Acceptance

I had a plan,
     Sacrifice a knight
          Move my queen-
     Checkmate
I had a plan,
     I would buy low
          And sell high-
     Nice profit.
I had a plan,
     Run with the ball,
          And mount defense-
     Championship.
I had a plan,
     Soften with artillery
         Charge with cavalry-
     Victory,
I had a plan,
      Get a higher degree
         Pursue my career-
     Success.
It was my plan,
     Such a good plan
          In my image-
     Human.
It crashed in flames,
     Sunk below the waves,
          Smoke to the skies-
     Failure
God has a plan,
     A plan of love,
          A plan of grace-
     Bright.
May God’s plan
     Be my plan,
          I’ll accept it-
     Blessing!

PARABLE OF THE CHAIN SAW

Parable Of The Chain Saw

Cut down by a chain-saw
Ripped clean at the roots
Like an ancient saint fallen from grace
White rings expose to the angry sun
What tragedy a fallen tree makes
Like a homeless man’s empty hands
Cold in vacant pockets
Fingers fit through cloth holes
No shade will fill beneath its reach
No statement uttered by its strong trunk
A garden incomplete
A landscape undone
Like a man robbed of a future
Until from the root a sprout
A slender twig of defiant hope
Once again a tree will fill the void
Like a man hearing the Gospel
A clean cure and a new beginning
Someday it is likely
And when that happens
All depend on the roots
A thing seen like faith
There will be nothing you can do
Except trust the Creator of Trees
And wait through your seasons
For the silent hidden roots to
Produce that which reaches up
To the sky like worshiping hands

MERCY

Mercy,
A Poem

One man rejects Christ
Only to stand before God in Eternity
He holds out empty hands and cries
“Mercy!”

Another receives Christ
He stands before God in Eternity
Jesus holds out scarred hands and proclaims,
“Mercy!”

IVY, A Poem of Conquest

Ivy, A Poem of Conquest

Brick upon brick,
Red, orange, and brown,
Row upon row.
The white mortar
Outlining stony definitions.
Green ivy spade leaves
Crawling up
With no regard
To order or precision.
The worker’s plumb line
Once marking the walls
So true;
Only a memory
To the dead stone,
Lost
Beneath the emerald
Leafy fingers grasp.
Monument
To man’s perfect
Architecture
Is sacrificed
Becoming
Its own living alter
Of ivy.
