Gift Of Me

Gift Of Me
A Poem Of Celebration.

Thank You, God
For the gift of me;
I am what you made me-
Strengths, weakness, vision
Unique in all Your creation.
Father, I accept the me
You want me to be;
Born of flesh
Yet made
In the image of God,
Reborn in the spirit
To learn
The image of Christ
In me.
I accept
From You today
The gift of self,
May I fulfill
The me
Of Your design.
I come closer to you
So I may come closer
To me.
To be lost in You
Is to find self.

A little Commentary: Many faith communities stress the sinful nature of the flesh or human nature, thus implying self is evil. Some communities of faith though acknowledging the need for salvation from sin, yet point to self not as sinful but a gift, part of the image of God and the light within. When we embrace self and all the uniqueness that God has made us we find our vocation or purpose. God created us each unique, that is a gift that makes intimate fellowship with our Creator personal. This poem does not embrace weakness or excuse sin but celebrates the gift of individuality that expresses the image of an infinite God in each one of us uniquely.

FREEDOM, A POEM TO GOD

Freedom, A Poem to God

I enjoyed an arrogant freedom,
My coming and going was my own.
I recognized no wall around me;
I wore no man’s tin dog tags,
And no fetters held my feet.
I could tread upon any pathway;
Climb the cliffs of my choice,
And sleep upon any shore.
I shared my liberty with no other;
To be unbound was my pride.
Independence was my joy.
Until I met You, Jesus, Savior;
And learned the true liberty
Of being bound by Your love.
Now you are the shore I sleep on;
You became the road I walk,
And the country I dwell in.
Now You are all of my boundaries,
I wear your name around my heart.
Freedom and You became one.
I find glory in that I am Yours.
I am free by belonging to You.

WINGS A POEM CELEBRATING NEW LIFE

Wings
A Poem Celebrating New Life

I have wings!
Wonderful,
Glorious wings.
No bird on earth,
No angel in Heaven
Has wings like these.

They spread and lift me.
I drift easily as mist,
Above the clouds.
Sailing upon freedom
With a power of flight
Not known by physics.

You can't see my wings
They are Spirit,
Known by faith
And the heart alone
May find them.

Not only have I wings
But also a place to fly,
A treasured nest
In the bosom of God.

A MORNING PRAYER

A morning prayer that is written by the Poet of Faith.  It is a freestyle poem that petitions God for his communion throughout the day. Read it a few times and pray it in your own words. Make a copy or bookmark the page to come back and reflect on it.

A Morning Prayer
A poem to God

Watchful Father above
Approve of me today.
Grow larger in my heart;
That I may see Jesus.
Guide my every thought
Toward Your constant love.
Keep me from any sin
Against my Lord and Savior .
Forgive the sin I may do,
And give sweet communion.
Take my weakness away;
Give me of Your strength.
In trials may I find that
Christ alone is sufficient.
Keep me from sins of despair;
Cleanse me of dark thoughts.
Make me as lamp of hope
To all those around me.
Bless me with Joy of knowing
That Jesus will forever
Be my Savior.

ASSURANCE

Assurance

When I doubt
I come to you.
When I doubt your love
I want to see…
“Do you still have
my name written
in the palms
of your hands?”
I come to my Lord,
Desperate:
You hold out you hand
For me to take
And I see
How deeply
My name is written.

Dishes
A Poem Of Thankfulness

I will forever wonder, Lord
how a family of six people
can have fifteen dirty dishes
in the sink by four o’clock.
I washed ten earlier today,
and a dozen at breakfast.
So, now here I am once more,
I have to scrape, scrub, and wash
them up all over again.

Forgive my complaining
Lord, I really don’t mean to.
I know I should be thankful.
Because dirty dishes mean
we served food on them today,
when so many others did not.
We have soap and water to wash with
and a clean sink to do it in, when
so many of your children do not.

Lord, forgive me for forgetting
the blessing of dirty dishes.

STILL, A Poem of Trust

Still, A poem

May I find a place
In the morning
To stop
To look at the clouds
And let problems
Drift to a destination
Ordained by You.

Be still and know I am God*

May I find a place
Near the noontime
To pull over
To listen to the creek,
And let anxiety
Flow to a way
Charted by You.

Be still and know I am God.*

May I find a place
In the evening
To stand still
To watch the leaves fall,
And let worries
Land where they may
By your plan.

Be still and know I am God.*

May I be a place
All my days
Unhurried:
To know your power
In all things.
To see you as God
In loving control

Be still and know I am God.*

THE KITCHEN TABLE

The Kitchen Table

It stood in the kitchen
On four stout oak legs.
It was an assembly line
Of lunch bags each morning.
It was the craft shop
For school science projects.
It was the place
Where friends talked.
It was often covered
With the kids homework.
It was the showcase
Of sister’s first cake.
We gathered around it
Blowing out birthday candles.
Those we loved sat there
For holiday meals
It is the monument
Of a thousand memories,
But the best was Dad
Giving thanks for our blessings.

HEART, A POEM TO GOD.

This poem is an expression celebrating God's changing touch in my life.  It is devotional and marvels at the tender mercy of God who heals us. I hope it speaks to you.

Heart
A Poem

I had a heart of stone
Until I met You.
By sacrifice
You bought it.
With a touch
You healed it.
With soft words
You crushed it.
With your kiss
You gave it spirit.
With Your look
You awoke it.
I had a heart of stone
Until I met You.
You made it flesh.
And beat for You.

GOD AND I, A POEM TO GOD

God And I
A Poem

When I explain to you
Who I am
I am accepted.
When I reveal to you
My secrets,
I am reassured.
When I admit to you
My weakness
I am safe.
When I confess to you
My darkest sin
I ‘m forgiven.
When I share with you
My life’s dream
I am respected.
When I confide to you
My groundless fears
I am understood.
When I tell you
My struggles
I am empowered.
When I bring to you
All of me
You give me all of You.

DADDY'S POEM, FOR MADDY

I wrote this poem for my daughter many years ago. she is now all grown up.

Daddy's Poem,
 For Maddy

I wish you would stay nine forever.
I would brush your hair every morning
For a half hour
And you would pick out my tie.
If you would stay nine forever
I would throw kisses through the window
As you go to school
Each morning.
If you would stay nine forever
I would tickle you to bed
Every night.
I know you will not stay nine forever
But you have made me nine
Over and over again.

HEAVEN BOUND, A POEM OF FAITH

Heaven Bound
A Poem Of Faith

We spend our days
Moments
And Years

Casually,
Occasionally,
Preparing ourselves

To spend
The sum of time
In a place

Carefully,
Deliberately,
Lovingly prepared
By Another.

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:3
